Jan Goklish-Stevens - United States Air ForceJanuary Goklish served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Andersen AFB, Guam and at Aviano Air Base, Italy. She also served a short tour supporting the “no fly zone” while stationed at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. Her last name, Goklish has White Mountain Apache roots and is pronounced dotł'izhihíí (meaning the color blue). However, when she attended boot camp, her drill sergeants couldn’t pronounce it, so they called her “Airman Goldfish.” January really was enjoying the challenges and promotions that came with serving in the military and had re-enlisted to accept the honor of being an instructor at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. However, shortly before transitioning to this position, her military career was cut short after succumbing to a debilitating injury that resulted in a medical discharge. Anyone can look back at their life and say what a rollercoaster of ups and downs as we all face uncertainty and disappointments. Be that as it may, much can be learned and gained from the many experiences’ life throws at us and especially when we share our strengths and support one another. She currently resides in Davis County, Utah with her two children aged 13 and 15, and her best pal and dog, Scout. She works for Davis School district as a preschool teacher which she passionately enjoys just as much as her adventures in the U.S.A.F.
