Evan Marcy, E-4 Specialist, US Army

Veterans Charity Ride Sidecar Passenger

size0-army.mil-50907-2009-09-24-130900I enlisted in the United States Army in March of 2005.  My first duty station was in Mannheim Germany where I worked in the Public Affairs office for 5th Signal Command.  I was the General’s Photographer mostly covering events and training exercises.  From there I deployed to Camp Victory Iraq and supported the General Staff of the 44th Signal Battalion.

Mostly I traveled with the Command Sergeant Major (CSM) as he visited numerous bases in order to check up on the Soldiers supporting the communications infrastructure.  I was there for about five months before the battalion returned back to Germany.  I was than assigned to 55th Combat Camera Company at Fort Meade, Maryland.   I than deployed to Afghanistan with fourth platoon, and we were in support of 4BCT 4th ID.

After a month into my deployment I was shot by an apache helicopter during a firefight (July29, 2009).  My left leg was amputated and I was than sent to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Silver Spring, MD.  I was medically discharged in 2011 and moved back to New York.

I than enrolled in Sarah Lawrence College and completed my Bachelors Degree Dec 2015.  My brother is an avid Harley rider, along with my uncles and cousins.  I rode dirt bikes when I was younger but I haven’t tried riding a motorcycle because with the prosthetic I’m not sure how to change the gears.
