JAMES FELIX Sergeant First Class (Ret), US Army

Ret. SFC. James Felix, originally from Memphis, TN, enlisted into the United States Army in 1991, at the age of 18. While serving in Hawaii, he met and married his wife Cameil. Over their 23 year marriage they had four children, three daughters and one son. Throughout his military career, James has deployed to three combat zones, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, to Malaysia for a survivor course, to Kosovo and Macedonia for peacekeeping missions, and to Korea for two years, assigned to the Security Task Force for the Peninsula Commander 8TH Army. SFC. He served at Ft. Campbell, KY, Hawaii, Korea, Ft, Drum, NY, and Ft. Leonard Wood. In October 2007, he was injured in Iraq from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), fracturing his right leg. After 16 months in Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) recovering from his injuries, he returned to active duty service. After 17 years as an Infantryman, he was re-classed to the job of an instructor at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

After 22 years in the military, James retired in May 2013, at Ft. Leonard Wood.

His decorations, and medals include: Bronze Star, Meritorious Service, Army Commendation (4), Army Achievement (8), Army Good Conduct (7), National Defense Service (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary, Global War on Terrorism Service, Kosovo Campaign, Korean Defense Service, Humanitarian Service, Iraq Campaign, Campaign Star, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service, NATO Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Action Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

James is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a volunteer at the Family Matters Girl’s Facility, president of a local riding club, a member at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), he is attending Columbia College studying Human Resources, and he is currently in Deacon training at his church.
